TWO KINDS OF FUNCTIONS
There are 2 kinds of functions. One is continuous function and other is non continuous function. In continuous function we can draw the graph of that function without lifting the pen but in a non continuous function we cannot draw the graph of that function without lifting the pen. The point where we lift the pen is called point of discontinuity. The graph for non continuous function may be as shown in picture.
WHAT IS CALCULUS?
Calculus has basically two components they are differentiation and integration. Differentiation is the process of finding a slope of a curve. Slope is the change in y divided by change in x I.e.,dy/dx. Integration is used to find the area between graph of a curve and x-axis. It is the process of cutting up an area into small sections and then adding up areas to get total area I.e., sum of dx x dy.
SOME TERMS TO BE KNOWN TO DEAL WITH KINEMATICS
Distance: It is described as path length of an object I.e.,total path travelled by an object. It is scalar quantity.
Displacement : It is shortest distance covered by an object. It is vector quantity.
Speed: It is the ratio of distance travelled by time of journey. Mathematically it can be represented as dx/dt (calculus concept) . You will study in upcoming posts. Speed is a scalar quantity.
Velocity: It is the ratio of displacement to time of journey. It is also mathematically stated as dx/dt. It is vector quantity.
Acceleration : It is the ratio of change in velocity to time of journey. It is mathematically represented as dv/dt where dv is change of velocity and dt is time of journey. It is vector quantity.
